Ice Hotel

Sweden / Jukkasjärvi

An ice hotel, the largest of its kind in the world, is set up every year in the Swedish town of Jukkasjärvi. Jukkasjärvi is 200 km north of the Arctic Circle, about 30 km from Kiruna Airport.

At the end of every October and beginning of November, several dozen artists from all over the world meet to start building a new, original version of this hotel on an area of 6,000 m2. The grand opening is usually in mid-December and the following spring the hotel melts.

The main lobby is decorated with works of art made from ice and captivating lighting. The beds in the rooms are made of ice blocks topped with wooden panels covered with mattresses, cushions and real reindeer skins. Every room is unique. The temperature in the rooms ranges from –5 to –8 °C. An option of traditional, “warm” accommodation is also available.

The hotel offers: a restaurant, ice bar, souvenir shop, skidoo rides, skiing, snow-shoeing, Northern Lights viewing, sleigh rides, fishing, hunting, ice-sculpting construction, dog sledding, and the ability to organise conferences and events.
